Col. Mullins was accompanied by his 8-year-old grandson, Blake, during the final mile of his 20-mile hike, representative of his expansive career in the Marine Corps. He retired from the Marine Corps after 31 years of faithful service on Sept. 29, 2022, at a ceremony at Marine Corps Base Quantico’s 395-acre Transportation Demonstration Support Area. The ceremony was officiated by Gen. Eric M. Smith, the assistant commandant of the Marine Corps, and attended by family, friends, and former Marine Corps colleagues.
