On the Shark's Fin, Mt Whitney in the Distance . The Shark’s Fin is a picturesque formation in the Alabama Hills National Recreation Area. The Alabama Hills was historically a focal point for Native American ceremony and subsistence activities. More recently, a number of Hollywood movies were filmed here. The unique rock formations make this a popular destination for photographers, rock climbers, hikers, and the like. Here, a climber is pictured on the Shark’s Fin. Mt. Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous United States, stands in the distance to the right.
