central pavilion in peoples park halifax housing statue to the parks founder sir francis crossley


This is Peoples Park in Halifax, West Yorkshire. The park was comissioned by the textile mill owner Sir Francis Crossley who made Halifax world know for carpet production. Given as a gift to the people of Halifax it was designed by Joseph Paxton who was also responsible for the great glass hall at the great exhibition. The park has numerous statues within it, a central fountain and pond and a wrought iron bandstand, three sandstone staircases lead up to a long promenade on which a pavilion with a statue to sir Francis Croslley is located lies at the western end.
