Family: Triglidae; Flying gurnards are generally found on sandy bottoms or rocks and generally encountered in pairs. The body coloration varies from brownish to beige with patterns of dots and stripes. The edges of the pectoral fins may appear slightly blue as they crawl over the sand. Flying gurnards usually prey on smaller invertebrates and fish.
