Though consider- able secrecy was observed regarding the new process, this magazine, it will be re- membered, was able to announce that the principal features were the shredding of the cane and the shipping it in bulk to the country of consumption where the sugar contents were to be extracted and the fibre made into a valuable paper, and that the United Fruit Company had engaged them- selves in a large financial way in the new process. From the information we are now able to give, it would certainly seem that Mr. McMuilen's hopes are about to be realized. Whether the change in the plans of extracting the sugar and manufacturing the paper in Cuba, instead of in the United States as was originally believed, is due to the recent United States tariff changes re- garding sugar and paper is not yet known. —Canada-West India Magazine.
