The Intan, a private museum owned and run by Alvin Yapp who realized his Peranakan/Chinese heritage was being lost. So he started accumulating antiques including an intricately carved Chinese ancestral altar, rare porcelain ware, hundreds of stunningly valuable beaded slippers and much more. Here are examples of beaded slippers, each of which is worth at least $1,000 and took an average eight months to make. The beads are from France and these slippers are typical of Peranakan culture.
