All Saint's Church, Iden, East Sussex

All Saint's Church, in the village of Iden, East Sussex. The tower at the All Saints Church is now the main part remaining of the earlier Norman Church, although there are traces from the 12th century. Sensitive restoration has created a simple light-filled interior. Over the West door are the arms of Sir William Scott, one of the inhabitants of Iden's Castle-the-Mote. (Info Source: ) Iden sits on a hill overlooking the Marshes of the Rother Levels and stands about 2 miles north of Rye on the B2082. In 1284 Edmund de Paseley, with the blessing of Edward I, built a castellated house surrounded by a moat. It was to become the home of Alexander Iden the Sheriff of Kent in the 15th century. In 1450 he captured and killed Jack Cade who led the Kentish Rebellion against Henry VI. (Info source: )
