The shuttle boxes are of iron with steelbinders. The hand rail is of ash, re-enforced by a steel plate, andan efficient shuttle guard is applied thereon. The swords are ofiron and swing on a heavy iron shaft, rigidly hung to the frame. Thepitmans are usually made of iron, but, if preferred, may be made ofwood, provided with metal straps and regulating bolts, to take upthe backlash in the pitman bearings.
