Hew^as educated in the public schools of NewRichmond, Wis., and after finishing highschool entered Bethel Academy, St. Paul,where he studied for two years; he grad-uted from Franklin College in 1916 andtook up post-graduate v^ork in ChicagoUniversity, at w^hich institution he v^rasstudying when v^rar broke out and he wasadmitted to the First Officers TrainingCamp at Fort Sheridan, which course hefinished and was held over for the Sec-ond Camp, being assigned to the 22ndCompany. Receiving his Sundvall wras ordered overseas,sailing in January, 1918. Upon arrivalin France he was given further instruc-tion in A. E. F. schools and then assignedto the 5th Marines. While on a volun-teer mission and seeking information asto the location of German machine gunnests, on April 19, 1 9 1 8, he was mortallyw^ounded by enemy fire, and died the nextday. He was unmarr
