They are attached to the spinal column behind, and the first orupper seven, called the true ribs, to the sternum in front. The lower five, called thefalse ribs are not attached to the sternum. They are usually attached in front tothe lower true ribs, by cartilage. 16. The Sacrum, or sacred bone, so called because it was offered in sacrifice by theancients. The lower end of this bone is called the coccyx, or os coccygis. I
