In building intcrurban roadbeds the construction of light embank-ments is frequently necessary and a machine has been especiallydesigned for work of this nature by the Western Wheeled Scraper. GRADEK. Co., of Aurora, III. It is called an elevating grader and consistsessentially of a frame and truck which support a plow and end-less carrier. The plow takes up the earth and deposits it on thecarrier, which elevates it to the opposite side of the machine andthrows it into the embankment. From 12 to 16 horses are used onthe machine, according to the quality of the soil, and beside twodrivers only one operator is required. The company guaranteesthat the machine will move at least 1,000 cu. yd. per day of 10 hourswith the power named. An illustration of the elevating grader is shown herewith. Themain frame is constructed of steel channel bars and the otherparts of steel angle bars, insuring strength and durability. There iiififiiifiiiit • iiiirifinnn iinnnnnn nnnnnnii Unmm.
