Wright Model A airplane. Demonstration flight of a biplane designed by the Wright brothers. US aviation pioneers Wilbur and Orville Wright produced a series of Wright Flyer aircraft models, starting with the first successful flight in a heaver-than-air machine (1903). Among the early designs they produced were the Wright Model A (1908) and the Wright Military Flyers flown here at Fort Myer, Virginia, USA, in 1908 and 1909. Public demonstration flights were attended by large crowds. The 1909 flights resulted in the aircraft being purchased by the Aeronautical Division of the US Army Signal Corps. Photograph from 1909, from the Harris and Ewing collection.
