He acted as editorof the Scottish CVmgregationalist, andhis literary ability has also found outletelsewhere. To the London QuarterlyReview, the Wesleyan MethodistMagazine, and other publications, is a frequent contributor. A num-ber of important theological works havealso come from his pen. These include abooklet on Christian Baptism, now inits second edition ; a larger work, entitled. Rev. Alexander Brown. The Great Day of the Lord, also in itssecond edition ; and two weighty volumeson The Doctrine of Sin and GodsGreat Salvation, the last-named bein^ aseries of expository sermons on the Heb-rews. As a preacher Mr. Brown does notstrain after popularity, although he seeksto make his discourses timely and his long ministry in St. Paul StreetChurch lie has maintained a remarkablyhigh level of pulpit work, and to-day hispreaching is as weighty and suggestive asever it was.
