In considering the question of a 5- cent or a 10-cent packet for next season, it is well to remember that the home gardener seldom has room to plant all the seeds in a packet. He will be satis- fied with less. The annual picnic of the employees of the Chas. H. Lilly Co., of Seattle, Wash., was held recently at Wildwood park, across Lake Washington. Sports were enjoyed during the day and followed by a huge dinner, a minstrel show and dancing imtil a late hour. Every em- ployee of the company was there. The annual house party at the Grass Lake seed farms of the Jerome B. Eice Seed Co. has been called off this year. The excessive rains during the summer months and the cold weather following have about ruined the otherwise interest- ing melon and vine seed trials. This and the disastrous fire at the farms recently caused the postponement of the gather- ing till another autumn. NEWS FBOM JAPAN.
