Greater prairie chicken (Tympanuchus cupido). This chicken-like game bird has a small head, chunky body, short legs and a relatively short tail. Greater prairie chickens engage in a distinct mating ritual called 'booming'. Males raise the feathers on the side of their necks to inflate orange air sacs, creating a deep booming sound and perform a dance. Photographed in Colorado, USA.
