PRESERVATION OF ARCHITECTURE IN ITALY - The Villa Gamberaia at Settignano on the outskirts of Florence, is a 16th century villa standing in beautiful garndes. When the Germans left, they set fire to maps from the Italian Military Geographical Institure stored for safe keeping. The burning maps set fire to the house and complete gutted the interior also destroying the beautiful arcaded courtyard. The villa is now closed for restoration after the war.
