Chess in the City- Everyday Life at the Gambit Chess Rooms, Budge Row, London, England, UK, 1944 A wide view of the busy Gambit Chess Rooms in London. The club consists of rows of tables and chairs which line the room: every seat is occupied with its occupant engrossed in a chess match. Many of the players are City workers, who are playing in their lunch hour (lunch is available here at the club), but there are service personnel too, including an American, visible in the foreground, and a Royal Air Force pilot, visible in the background, to the right of the photograph.
