He came to thiscountry during the latter partof the seventeenth John Paterson, the fatherof Gen. Paterson, was a man ofthe very highest probity andhonor, and was a very brilliantofficer in the British army. Heserved with distinction in theFrench and Indian wars of the colonies, and waswith Gen. Wolfe when he fell at Quebec. He diedof yellow fever, at Havana, on Sept. 5, 1762. Johnwas graduated from Yale in 1762, and entered theprofession of the law, and was almost immediatelymade justice of the peace of the town of June 3,1766, he married Elizabeth, only daughterof Joseph and Hannah (Warren) Lee, of was a very attractive lady, in all respects fitted.
