At bottom are the side (lateral) views. the bones of human knee joints, showing the upper and lower leg bones. These views of the ends of the bones clearly show the conjugation cartilage regions, also known as the epiphysial plate or growth plate. This is a site of bone development during a child's growth and development. The bones forming the knee joints are the upper leg bone (femur, thigh bone) and the lower leg bones, the tibia (thicker bone) and fibula (thinner bone). The kneecap (patella) is also visible.
