Dancer wearing wooden mask performing stick dance at Black-necked Crane Festival, Gangte Monastery, Phobjikha Valley, Bhutan

The Black-necked Crane Festival is held annually at Gangte Monastery in the Phobjikha Valley, Bhutan. The festival aims to promote awareness of the need for conservation of the habitat of the black-necked cranes (Grus nigricollis) that over-winter in the valley each year. However, the program consists mostly of traditional Buddhist religious dances and Bhutanese folk dances.
