X-ray of a humerus (upper arm bone) that has been fixed to repair a fracture at its proximal extremity after a fall. To correct the displacement of the bone, a metal Philos plate is attached to the bone with surgical screws. This procedure is called Open Reduction Internal Fixation (ORIF). The plate may be removed if complications occur after the bone has healed. This plate has been in place for 3 years.
