They occur inintertropical seas, andbury their soft-shelledeggs on sandy green turtle (Cheloneviridis) is much esteemedas food ; the hawks-billturtle (Caretta imbricata)furnishes much of thecommercial tortoise-shell. Testudinidae, land tor-toises, with convex per-fectly ossified carapace,and feet adapted forwalking. They are foundin the warmer regions ofboth the Old and the New.
