It seems that at one time the hippo livedas far north as Cairo, until it was exterminated by man. Livingstone men-tioned having seen immense numbers of hippos feeding along the shores ofthe Albert and Victoria Nyanza. The method of killing the hippo used bythe natives living near the lakes was so crude that the vast number of thecreatures never seemed to be A PAIR OF TOUCANS EATING BANANAS.
