Instead of putting up a building next to the greenhouses for the boiler, I intend to put the boiler in the basement of my residence, which is about thirty feet from greenhouse No. 1. The floor of the basement is five feet below the floors of the greenhouses. The top of the boiler is on a level with the floor of the greenhouses. Can I run a pipe from the boiler on a level with the ground outside to the nearest greenhouse, and then elevate the pipe and run it on a slope to the end of the greenhouses and bring the returns back underground to the boiler, boxing both pipes with asbestos to keep in the heatt What would you suggest t G. F. M.—Cal. There should be no difficulty in run- ning the flow pipe as outlined above. Unless it is possible to locate the ex- pansion tank in the greenhouse above the highest point in the flow pipe, an air valve will be necessary. The ex- pansion tank may then be connected with the flow pipe before it is carried outside of the basement. It should, of course, be located at a level higher than the highest point in the system. If the flow and return pipes are properly in- sulated, the loss of heat between the residence and the greenhouses will be negligible. HEATING WITH STEAM. I am sending sketch of my two green- houses.
