X-48C blended wing body aircraft. Researcher with sub-scale model of the X-48C awaiting its first test flight at Rogers Dry Lake at Edwards Air Force Base, California, USA. This new version has two higher-thrust turbojets in place of the original three. This blended wing body aircraft has been developed jointly by NASA and Boeing's Phantom Works research and technology division. Built by UK company Cranfield Aerospace, it is a low-noise version of a Hybrid Wing Body (HWB) aircraft design, part of studies of future aircraft by NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate's Environmentally Responsible Aviation Project.
