Virgin of the Milk (Virgen de la leche), c. 1500, Circle of Gil de Siloe, Spanish, active Burgos, Spain, 1486–1501, 31 1/4 x 23 x 16 1/2 in. ( x x cm) (approx.), Polychromed wood, Spain, 16th century, This medieval sculpture of the Virgin Mary breastfeeding her son is unexpectedly naturalistic for its time.
