Votive amulet in the form of a retiarius (gladiator) with dagger and net fighting a wild animal that emerges from his erect phallus. The amulet has five tintinnabula (bells) on it. Handcoloured lithograph from Cesar Famin's "Musee royal de Naples (The Royal Museum at Naples)," Abel Ledoux, Paris, 1836. This rare volume is a catalog of the collection of erotic paintings, bronzes and statues excavated in Pompeii and Herculaneum and stored in a Secret Cabinet at Naples.
