Atwellin Chepachet for a year until the death of the latterand then for a year in the office of Richard of Providence, who was then United StatesDistrict Attorney and afterwards Chief Justice ofthe Supreme Court of the state of Rhode was admitted to the Rhode Island bar in 1845,and commenced practice in Providence, January i,1846. He attended sedulously to his professionand acquired a large practice. He was City Solici-tor of Providence, 1863-65, member of the GeneralAssembly 1863-64 and 1880-81, of the Providence. B. N. LAPHAM. Common Council 1869-71, of the Board of Aldermen1876-S2 and of the State Senate was also for many years a member of the SchoolCommittee.
