University of Chicago physicists and professors, seated in 1908 at the entrance to the university's Ryerson Physical Laboratory in Chicago, Illinois, USA. In the back row, from left: Albert Abraham Michelson (1852-1931), Robert Andrews Millikan (1868-1953) and Henry Gordon Gale (1874-1942). Seated in front is Carl Kinsley (1870-1959). Michelson and Millikan were awarded the 1907 and 1923 Nobel Prize in Physics respectively. Gale, an astrophysicist, edited the 'Astrophysical Journal' from 1912 to 1940.
