Norenji Temple Garden - in the middle of the Muromachi period Nakayama Iekatsu had great influence in Hanno, invited famous Soto sect monks and opened this small hermitage. After Iekatsu's death, his son Nakayama Ienori built it as a full-fledged temple to mourn his father. In the north garden of the main hall, there is a Horai garden with a pond. Norenji Temple Garden is a Horai garden with a pond viewing style, and includes an artificial mountain, a turtle island, a crane island, and a stone bridge. Along the mountainside, there is a magnificent dry waterfall stone arrangement, which is considered to be a wonderful design in this garden. By skillfully incorporating the steep slopes of Mt. Tenran a three-dimensional garden was created. The stepping stones are surrounded by an elaborate design called arare-kuzushi paving stones, which are roughly laid out with larger cobblestones. In this way the garden has depth and three-dimensionality.
