Crude oil tanker. Propellor blade (fan-like) and rudder (vertical, centre) of a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) being built in a dry dock. This ship will be a third of a kilometre long (approximately 330 metres) when finished. The propellor is used to move the ship through the water, whilst the rudder controls direction. Crude oil carriers are among the largest tankers, with ultra-large crude carriers (ULCCs) reaching over 440,000 deadweight metric tons (DWT). Ships such as VLCCs and ULCCs, with sizes above 250,000 DWT, are informally known as supertankers. Photographed at Hyundai Heavy Industries, Korea, the world's largest shipyard.
