James Thomas, and theRev. C. B. Lewis, its present conductor. The translations which so prominently character-ised the first period of the Societys history werecontinued. Inforty-four languages or dialects of the East, spokenby at least five hundred millions of people, includingthe Chinese version of Dr. Marshman, had the wholeor a part of the Bible been translated by these.
