AND January 28, 1922 PUBLIC WORKS 69 laid direct on subgrade without any foundationcourse. The concrete in the one-course construction isproportioned 1:2 ^4 of Portland cement, clean pitsand and gravel, screened from the Arkansas riverand pits. The two-course construction is 1 :l3/$ :2j^top course, with same coarse aggregate as lor the one-course except for grading, and a pit-run aggregatebase. The proportion for the base course is de-termined by the per cent, of pit run aggregate re-tained on a one-fourth inch screen and varies from1:334 to 1:5 of Portland cement and total volume pitrun material.
