Where Henze steamers are used theyare arranged in batteries, the blow-off pipes beingconnected to the preparatory mash vats. Theseare preferably provided with water cooled stirrersconsisting of a frame of straight and vertical tubesmounted on a tubular arm projecting from atubular shaft, and rotated in a horizontal planewi hin the closed mash vats, by suitable rotation of the arm stirs and automaticallymixes the mash while cooling it. Another formof cooler is shown diagfammatically in Fig. 4. Whatever form of cooling apparatus is used,attention should be paid to the ease with whichthe stirrers or tubes can be kept clean, and to thestrength of the apparatus, gears, etc. Concen-.
