The route should be taken through the central por-tions of Pennsylvania Avenue, and Seventh, Ninth, and F streets,and afterward through the fashionable West End. By riding theentire length of Connecticut Avenue from Lafayette Park to DupontCircle, and then returning through Massachusetts Avenue, much ofthe palatial section will be traversed. Then, by extending theride on Seventh Street, below Pennsylvania Avenue, the grounds ofthe Mall can be inspected, with the Smithsonian Institution, the Na-tional Museum, the Department of Agriculture Building, the Bureau HINTS AND SUGGESTIONS. 297. of Printing and En-graving, and theWashington Monu-ment. In fact, a rideover such a route willenable one to see inrapid succession theWhite House, theTreasury Building,all the departmentbuildings, and manyof the finest churches,mansions, institu-tions, parks, squaresand circles, and busi-ness structures. Af-terward the ride mightbe continued to theCapitol and throughits grounds, and thendown East CapitolStreet as far as thestatue of Emancipa-tion, returning by wayof NorthCarolina andPennsylvania ave-nues. A good viewof Capitol Hill canthus be obtained. The Capitol shouldbe thoroughly inspec-ted, even if other ob-jects of interest areslighted. It is the grandest edifice in America, and in many particulars in the picture can do it justice ; no hasty inspection will
