Banners strung along LaSalle Street in honor of Mary T. Washington Wylie and the 75th anniversary of her becoming the first African-American woman certified public accountant in the United States in 1941. She also founded a Chicago accounting company that become one of the largest black-owned CPA firms in the nation. LaSalle Street, the location of the banners, is the main avenue that defines the financial district of Chicago. Washington Wylie lived to be 99 years old when she passed away in 2005.
