A Winter Rose-breasted Grosbeak From January 26 up to today (February13), there has been in and about our yardhere a bird which I think I can positivelyidentify as an immature male Rose-breasted Grosbeak. This bird has beenabout practically every day, including somedays when there was five inches of snowon the ground and the thermometer wasdown to zero. The birds chief food seemsto be the seeds of the common honeysuckle;it also eats suet, and a number of times hasbeen down on the ground picking upcrumbs with the English and TreeSparrows. As this bird is now getting rather tame—eating suet from a lilac bush just outsideour window—I shall no doubt have theopportunity to make further study of it,.
