It is an expensive practice to scrap theheads on account of this defect, especially under presentconditions, and the sketch shows a special chuck or Jigwhich was designed by H. B. Stratton, a machinist in theJBlueiield shops, for holding the heads while boring out thereversing valve bush chamber for the bushing used in re--claiming the heads. The jig is forged out of wrought iron in one piece and•finished all over. After it has been threaded to fit the lathespindle, and faced off, it is advisable to finish it on thetspindle of the lathe on which it is to be used. Four drilled to receive jg-in. machined bolts which are used Mse fburBolfs hJxjs/en One Bolfihoi. By using this device it is not necessarj- to set up the jig is threaded to screw on to the lathe spindle and theheads bolted to the jig as shown in the sketch. As the re-versing valve chamber is in the center of the head, no is rtfjuired. This method shortens the operation ofboring and threading the chambers to receive the bushings are of the usual design marie of wroughtiron, threaded on the outside 10 threads per Inch and on theinside to receive the reversing valve chamiier cap. Thebushings may be made on a turret lathe in fjuantity and•carried in stock.
