Wood-carved Idyllwild monument of birds and other forest denizen, including a bear rearing up on hind legs. Idyllwild is located in Riverside County, in the San Jacinto mountains, a mountain range east of Los Angeles in southern California in the United States. It is known as "Mile-high Idyllwild" and is a popular southern California mountain resort and is about one mile ( km) in altitude. Idyllwild was once the summer home for bands of Cahuilla Indians, who migrated to the area to escape the heat of lower elevation deserts.
