Balearic Peony or Majorcan Peony, Paeonia cambessedesii, Paeoniaceae. Baleric Islands, Spain. This endemic of the Balearic Islands is now limited to parts of northeastern and northwestern Majorca where it grows on rocky limestone slopes or below limestone cliffs. It is a herbaceous perennial and grows primarily in the temperate biome. Like all peonies, the Balearic peony is very poisonous, and is avoided by grazers. The root is said to have been used as a cure against epilepsy.
