Theodore Hardee, who has been elected Secretaryof the Executive Committee of the National Civic Fed-eration, comes to that position from Portland, he was assistant to the President of the Lewisand Clarke Centennial Exposition, his duties includingthe care and entertainment of distinguished guests, andthe arrangement of social functions of an official char-acter. Mr. Hardees previous experience has developedhis qualities of tact and executive ability. After a tourof South America, he read law in California, and in1900 became an official in the Post Office accompanied President McKinley during his visitto the Pacific coast. Afterward he was detailed asassistant secretary of the United States delegation to. THEODORE of F\ecutive Committee. the Pan-American Congress in Mexico, where he wasalso special correspondent of the New Orleans Times-Democrat. In 1902, Mr. Hardee was assigned to accompany JohnBarrett, Commissioner-General of the Louisiana Pur-chase Exposition, on a tour of the world to confirm toforeign rulers, in person, the invitation of the Presidentof the United States for their countries to participatein the Worlds Fair at St. Louis. He was made theSpecial Commissioner to Oriental countries, and inrecognition of his labors in China, the Emperor con-ferred upon him the Order of the Golden Dragon. Upon his return, Mr. Hardee was appointed assistantto the General Secretary and Director of Exploitationof the Exposition, Walter B. Stevens. In this capacityhis activity was devoted principally to securing atten-tion to foreign Commissioners in fulfilment of thepromises of the management. At the conclusion of theSt. Louis Fair,
