Endometrial squamous metaplasia. Light micrograph of a section through the endometrium (lining of the womb) showing squamous metaplasia. Metaplastia is the transformation of one cell type to another, in this case from columnar epithelium to squamous epithelium. Metaplastic squamous epithelium can be unstable and a potential site for cancer.
