(Ward, adapted from Koppen.) 114 FOREST PHYSIOGRAPHY It will be noted from the table that the winter means on the Atlanticcoast are regularly lower than those on the Pacific, since, being on theleeward side of the continent, continental influences are more stronglymarked than marine. The summer means are all higher for the samereason: the land is always warmer in summer and colder in winter thanthe sea. The greatest extremes of temperature are experienced in. the interiorof the country far from the influence of the oceans, where the continentaltype of climate prevails.
