Traditional old British Customs,Festivities and events - Plough Monday celebrations in rural Britain (from an 1845 Almanac). Plough Monday traditionally starts the English agricultural year and traditionally saw the return to work after the Christmas period . Plough Monday is generally the first Monday after Twelfth Day (Epiphany), 6 January, but dates vary throughout the country, especially in modern times when celebrations still take place. On Plough Sunday, a plough was often paraded from house to house collecting money , accompanied by merry-makers.
