In 1526 he set forth from Havre de Grace on histhird voyage from which he never returned, having beenmurdered by cannibals after landing with a few of hismen to confer with the savages. His biographer says:Many who had known and conversed with him havetold me that he had declared that it was his intention topersuade the most Christian King to send a goodly num-ber of people to settle in some places of the JACQUES CARTIER
