A life-sized terra cotta grandmother sits outside a potter’s studio in the town of St Quentin-la-Poterie.

St Quentin la Poterie lies in the Gard region of the south of France, some x km from the town of Uzes. Pottery has been produced in the town since the middle ages when over 110 000 glazed earthenware tiles were produced for the Palais des Papes in Avignon. Industrial clay objects were made right up until 1974. From 1983 potters and ceramists have moved into the town. Today it is possible to visit 20 workshops and galleries. The Terratha pottery fair is held round about the 14th July. It attracts around 100 exhibitors and thousands of visitors.
