The machine shop foremansaid: 99 machinists out of 100 would saythat it is a close-grained iron and wouldnever imagine it is semi-steel. Instead of applying for a patent and making an exorbitant charge, Mr. McLaingave his formulas and advice on semi-steel to all foundrymen who desired it. Even in those days he realized that the name semi-steel was considered amisnomer, but he believed that McLAINS SEMI-STEEL WAS A NEW METAL,strong enough to stand on its own merits irrespective of the name.
