Leopard (Panthera pardus) head, close-up. This solitary carnivore is almost completely nocturnal, spending its days resting in the branches of trees, which it climbs with great agility. At night it will ambush its prey, dropping on antelopes from the branches of a tree. The leopard is found in wooded savannah and forests throughout sub-Saharan Africa and southern Asia. Photographed in Namibia.
