Vintage children's book, Dick Barton Special Agent, 1950

Vintage children's book, Dick Barton Special Agent, 1950. Books such as this were often the staple Christmas present of a post-war childhood. Dick Barton was a radio programme on the BBC Light service from 1946 to 1951 devised by Norman Collins and Dick Noel Johnson. He was a crime fighter and the episodes often finished with clffhanger endings and with a famous catchphrase 'With one bound Dick was free'. His blond-haired sidekick was called Snowy (both feature on the cover illustration). There were later films made by Hammer and a TV series in the 1970s - a vintage nineteen fifties item for editorial use only.
