Volunteers prepare the Moonbird search and rescue plane for a mission across the Central Mediterranean in Moonbird is operated by German charity Sea Watch, and runs around 100 plane missions a year. More than 19,000 people have drowned in the Mediterranean Sea since 2014, and the central Mediterranean route is the deadliest in the world.
